L02-02 Dipping Vessel

Instrument Code:L02-02
Name:Dipping Vessel
Synonyms:Dipping bottle, dipping probe, immersion cylinder
Description:
A detachable sampler consisting of a metal or plastic bottle/probe with a weighted base (for quick lowering) and a plug for the bottle. The bottle and the plug are suitably tied to a cord, rope or chain, which makes it possible to take samples from various levels: when the necessary level is reached the plug is opened by a sharp pull or alternative means. Capacity: 500 ml to 1 000 ml.

The dipping vessel is in the form of a bottle or a probe made of polypropylene (PP), teflon (PTFE) or aluminium (Al).

Application:
Same as for L02-01: Sampling of liquids from discrete depth zones — spot sampling and cross-sectional sampling is possible. The type of sampling probe is chosen according to the material being sampled. Probe made of PTFE can be used also for aggressive liquids e.g. fruit acids or aggressive chemicals.
Operation:
Same as for L02-01: The probe is inserted into the liquid being sampled. The top is closed by a stopper, which is attached to a cable. When the probe reaches the desired depth the stopper is released and the probe is filled with the sample from the specific depth. Then, the probe is withdrawn and the content is transferred to a sample container.
Typical examples:
 Liquid non-flammable samples

Water-miscible liquids including foodstuffs and high-viscosity liquids. Dark petroleum products such as heating oil and dark lubrication oil.
Cleaning and maintenance:
Wash with water, open the stopper and dry at 60 °C.

Wash with gasoline, then with water, open the stopper and dry at 60 °C.
