Instrument Code:G01-01Name:Sampling cylinder with accessoriesSynonyms:Gas sampler, gas container, gas cylinder Description:Corrosion resistant metal (stainless) sample container with fittings, connectors, valves and tubing. Made of stainless steel. Valve seats and piston seals must be made of a material (elastic) suitable for its intended use. Sampling cylinders used for corrosive gases are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or epoxy resin. Picture: Pictures from EN ISO 4257 Application:For sampling of gaseous samples or high vapour pressure gas/liquids. Typical application is sampling of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG).Operation: Sample is transferred into sampling cylinder which is also used as a sample container for transfer of the sample in to the laboratory. The sampling cylinder is in upright position with outlet valve at the top and both valves inlet and outlet closed.Close vent valve, open control valve, open inlet valve and fill sampling cylinder with the sample.Close inlet valve and the valve at the sample source.Open vent valve. After the pressure is fully reduced, disconnect sampling cylinder from the transfer line.Procedure from EN ISO 4257 (ASTM D1265) Typical examples:Liquified petroleum gases stored in large containers or being moved in pipelines Cleaning and maintenance: If the history of the sample container is not known or if the previous sample could affect the analysis to be carried out, purge properly the sample container before sampling. Purge procedure is performed with the sampled liquefied gas as follows: Connect outlet valve of the sampling cylinder to the sample transfer line with the container in an upright position and inlet valve at the top.Close vent valve, inlet and outlet valves. Open control valve and then inlet and outlet valves. Fill sampling cylinder until liquid issues from inlet valve. Close both inlet and outlet valves, then control valve on the sampling line.Loosen the connection joining the sample cylinder to the sample line and turn container through 180° such that outlet valve is at the top. Open inlet and outlet valves to drain out liquid.Return the sample container to position inlet valve at the top. Tighten connection to sample transfer line and repeat this purging operation at least 3 times. If the sample history is known and would not affect the analysis use this simplified procedure: With the container in an upright position and outlet valve at the top, close vent valve and inlet valve and open control valve.Open inlet valve and partly fill the cylinder with sample by slowly opening the outlet valve. Close the control valve and allow part of the sample to escape in the vapor phase through outlet valve.Close outlet valve and release the remainder of the sample in the liquid phase by opening vent valve. Repeat this purging operation at least 3 times.Containers must be checked for gas tightness. Repair or replace any leaky container.
